The Planning Division is responsible for implementing City policies that direct the physical development of Rohnert Park. Planning serves as the point of entry for development proposals and provides assistance to architects, designers, developers, builders, and residents navigating the regulatory process.

Planning activities are divided into two functions: Long Range Planning and Current Planning. The Long Range Planning component directs the future development of the City through the implementation of the City's General Plan 2020, the "long range" blueprint and policy document for the future of Rohnert Park. Current Planning includes shorter-term activities, such as the administration of the City's Zoning Ordinance, Title 17, Zoning and review of development projects including the remodeling of existing structures and reuse of existing properties or facilities.
